What to do about diarrhea?

What to do about diarrhea?

In the main group on FB, we have a whole lot of replies to this FAQ, but given it’s a private group, I can’t copy that stuff here. But everyone should know they can add their answers; it’s not like what I write is the be-all and end-all. And frankly, on this specific question, I don’t have nearly the expertise as I do on the opposite one. I will try to summarize other people’s answers as well as mine.

First, some of us have difficulty when breaking a fast if we do it too quickly. I’ve had this problem in the past, and wrote about it here: https://reversingdiabetes.xyz/blog/gi-issues-breaking-fast/ – if you have burning throughout your GI tract after eating, this is something you need to read ASAP.

I don’t actually do chia pudding, even for extended fasts anymore, as my body seems to have figured out what I’m doing. I do sip broth while fixing my RBS, which likely “warns” my body that food is coming so it had better gear up.

Others have found eating some protein about a half hour before their RBS is helpful; suggestions that have worked for some include Greek yogurt and plain tuna.

My experience likely points to another issue, namely, that the body adjusts.

A lot of digestion is accomplished by the bacteria living in our guts, and when we change our diet significantly, there may be an adjustment period until the “right” bacteria for all these vegetables gets more established.

I don’t know about *you*, but my body was not accustomed to eating piles of raw veggies daily prior to ELAB; I probably shocked the heck out of my bugs. 😉

It may be helpful to go with more cooked meals rather than salads. A lot of folks find it easier to eat a pile of cooked vegetables rather than raw as cooking sort of pre-digests them for you.

Overdoing things can cause this issue also. Overdoing fat can sort of make everything glide right out of you. I had issues when I began using MCT oil powder, but over time, my body adapted.

Overdoing electrolytes can cause this problem also; it’s generally better to sip them rather than chug them, which will help them be better absorbed also.

Many have found help using probiotic products.

A few folks do not adjust well and just can’t do much vegetables. Some of those folks tend to do a more carnivore version of keto rather than the RBS. I suspect it’d take longer to lose weight, and to reverse diabetes, but that may be better than struggling with this issue on an ongoing basis.

I think I covered most of what I’ve heard from other bears, but feel free to add suggestions of anything that has helped you in a comment below. Thanks!
