Reversing Diabetes Blog - Jackie Patti's n=1 experiment
I’m Jackie and you can find out about me from my about me page on another blog. Since this blog will be almost entirely about me, and my journey to attempt to reverse diabetes, I didn’t bother with an “about me” page here. Why does a post about diabetes have a Pacman? The reason is autophagy, a word which means self-eating. Autophagy is the process by which lysosomes within a cell eat malformed...

The Diabetes Code: Prevent and Reverse Type 2 Diabetes Naturally
Why I RecommendDr. Jason Fung taught me when to eat. This is the book that started me on my journey. It was under 3 bucks on Kindle when I bought it; it seemed to me that if Fung was a snake-oil salesman, he wasn't very good at it!
Eat Like a Bear! Jump Start - The Three Day Challenge Unpacked
Why I RecommendThe three-day challenge is a free email course intended to introduce people to the ELAB way of eating. It surpassed all expectations as thousands took the challenge, and Amanda distilled their experience to produce this book. The Jump Start introduces you to many variations of keto while providing significant inspiration to anyone considering a change to their way of eating. Highly recommended for the curious newbie!
Keto Chow Electrolyte Drops - Electrolytes for Fasting and Ketosis
Why I RecommendThis is not a bad replacement for mixing your own electrolyte drink as a source of sodium and potassium. I prefer making my own drink for every day, but this concentrated source in the refillable little bottle is handy to have in my pocket when gardening or walking with kitties. The same brand also sells magnesium drops if you prefer to get it orally instead of topically via epsom salts.
Half My Size with The Ridiculously Big Salad - How I Ate Like a Bear and Lost 140 Pounds
Why I RecommendAmanda Rose taught me what to eat via this book, back when it only existed in digital form. I was eagerly awaiting this to gift to my technologically challenged friends and family; I got a 5-pack and though I already had the digital, I kept one for myself! HIGHLY recommended!
Half My Size with Soups, Skillets, and Sautes
Why I RecommendThe cooked RBS is finally available! This cookbook includes strategies to find your groove on the good days, so you have a great resource in your pocket to get through the bad days. DIGITAL ONLY!
The Obesity Code: Unlocking the Secrets of Weight Loss
Why I RecommendFor those who've got weight to lose, but are not yet diabetic, I recommend Amazon's #1 Best Seller in Endocrinology & Metabolism. You must check out the reviews!
Your Last Day 1! A Getting Started (for the last time) Video + Resource Page
Why I RecommendThe RBS and SSS books above teach us to Eat Like a Bear, and this new mini-course teaches us to Think Like a Bear. This is for anyone who is sitting on the fence wondering how to start, for anyone trying to figure out how to restart after falling off the wagon, or anyone just trying to figure out how to get from the first day all the way to the finish line. A useful tool for mindset change.
Lies My Doctor Told Me: Medical Myths That Can Harm Your Health
Why I RecommendDr. Berry discusses the disconnect between mainstream medical practice and the actual known scientific research with regards to low-fat diets, milk recommendations, cholesterol concerns, wheat as a staple food, the problems with the food pyramid, exercise and weight loss, nuts and seeds in diverticulitis, testosterone treatment in men (and women!), misuse of antibiotics, sodium restriction, confusion about calorie counting, calcium and kidney stones, why TSH doesn't measure thyroid health, vitamin D requirements, why breast-fed infants don't need supplements, the importance of sun for health, misconceptions about fiber, red meat and cancer risk (whether processed, grilled or not), carbohydrates and brain health. He also shares his personal story of awakening to the fact that much of what he'd been taught to believe wasn't actually true and how he began researching these topics on his own.
ENGAGE! Eat Like a Bear! Membership
Why I RecommendThis private FB community is designed to help you stay focused on your long-term goal. It includes introductory video materials covering Amanda's five tenets of weight loss mindset, small "den" membership so you can form friendships and support one another and daily posts by community leaders.
The Simple Six: The Easy Way to Get in Shape and Stay in Shape for the Rest of your Life
Why I RecommendExercise is not required for either reversing diabetes or losing weight. In fact, I couldn't walk more than a few steps without an assistive device when I began. But when I was ready to upgrade from hiking and gardening and wanted to build strength, this was the plan I chose. I call this "exercise for people who hate exercise" as it only takes about 10-15 minutes a day to get in a full body workout.
Yes4All Solid Cast Iron Kettlebell Weights
Why I RecommendThese are the kettlebells I use for the Simple Six workout. As a pretty wussy newbie, I began with a 5 lb and 20 lb kettlebell, which was pretty tough when I began, but I'm looking to upgrade to a 10 and 25 lb within a few months.
